Content delivery network

Service Provider. A global network of servers that stores and serves copies of website content to website visitors using the server geographically closest to each website visitor.

A content delivery network (CDN) selects the servers for delivery based on the geographic locations of the website visitor, the original webpage, and content delivery server. Through a CDN, website visitors experience reduced latency and load times while the original web server reduces bandwidth costs and improves reliability.

A CDN copies your static website files to other servers in various geographic locations. These are called points of presence (POP) or edge servers. This process is called caching.

When a website visitor tries to go to your website, their request gets routed to the closest edge server instead of your website.

This speeds access to your website content.
